Mr. Volney Pfifer was in a privileged postion, and he was given a poster for all the movies in which he was involved. They were folded and stored until now.

We have carefully removed them from their container, unfolded them and placed each one in a special plastic sleeve to prepare them for auction.

The experts will know that they are exceptional and the pictures will attest to this. We are not experts in this field, but we are told that it is uncommonly rare to find posters and printed materials in this beautiful condition.

"Eskimo"- one sheet (27" X 41") movie poster, MGM 1931

"Eskimo" aka 'Mala the Magnificant' was a groundbreaking film for MGM and atthe time was billed as "The Biggest Picture Ever Made". Additionally it must have been a milestone adventure for animal handler Volney Phifer. Studio chief Louis B. Mayer spared no expense shipping the entire production to the northwest coast of Alaska, "Camp Hollywood", where he made sure they had every comfort during the entire filming process. He even sent the famous chef from the Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Blvd to provide catering. The first film to use a nearly all Native American cast, with even the lead played by Ray Mala, an Inupiat Eskimo actor.

Even the story line was ground breakingly risque. Canadian Artic tribe has it's first encounter with a ship of white fur traders. The plot turns once the traders take Mala's wife as an additional part of the trade. Directed by W.S .Dearing, who also has an acting role, this film took an Acadamy Award in 1933 for Best Film Editing.
